The Marqueyssac gardens, also known as Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, is a beautiful garden located in the Dordogne region of France. The gardens cover an area of around 22 hectares and are situated on a hilltop overlooking the Dordogne River.
The gardens were originally created in the 17th century, but the current design dates back to the 19th century when they were redesigned in the French Romantic style. The gardens feature more than 150,000 hand-pruned boxwood trees, creating a stunning maze-like effect as visitors wander through the garden's paths and walkways.
One of the main attractions of the Marqueyssac gardens is the Belvedere, a circular terrace at the highest point of the garden that offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can also explore the garden's various paths, fountains, and water features, and enjoy the many sculptures and other artistic elements found throughout the garden.
The Marqueyssac gardens are open to visitors from March to November, and guided tours are available in several languages. The gardens are a popular tourist destination, particularly during the summer months, and have been designated as a National Historical Monument of France.
