Is the Topologica travel map and route planner free?⌄
Yes, both tools are completely free. The route planner works without an account — you only need to sign in if you want to save your visited-countries map to your profile.
How does the route planner work?⌄
Search for a city, add it as a stop, and repeat. The planner draws your route on the map, picks a sensible transport mode for each leg (which you can change), and calculates total distance, travel time and CO2 estimates automatically.
How do I share my route?⌄
Two ways: "Copy Draft Link" puts your whole route into a single URL you can send to anyone, and "Publish & Get Link" creates a permanent public page with the map, itinerary and stats.
How are travel time and CO2 estimates calculated?⌄
Distances use great-circle (geodesic) calculations between stops. Time estimates use typical speeds per transport mode (e.g. ~750 km/h for flights plus airport overhead, ~90 km/h for trains). CO2 estimates use average per-kilometer emissions per passenger for each mode.
How many countries are there to track on the travel map?⌄
