Peterskirche, also known as St. Peter's Church, is a baroque-style Roman Catholic church located in Vienna, Austria. It was completed in 1733 and is considered to be one of the most impressive baroque churches in Vienna.
The church was built by the architect Gabriele Montani, who combined elements of the Italian and Austrian baroque styles. The exterior of the church features a tall dome and a façade with a central portal flanked by two towers. The interior of the church is lavishly decorated with stucco, frescoes, and sculptures.
One of the most notable features of Peterskirche is its high altar, which was designed by the famous baroque artist, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The altar is adorned with a large painting of St. Peter by the Austrian painter, Daniel Gran. The church also features several side altars, including the Altar of the Sacred Heart, the Altar of St. John of Nepomuk, and the Altar of the Holy Cross.
Peterskirche has a long history of hosting musical performances, including concerts by the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Today, the church continues to be a popular venue for classical music concerts and other cultural events. Visitors can also climb to the top of the church's dome for panoramic views of Vienna.
