The Stelvio Pass, also known as Passo dello Stelvio, is a mountain pass located in the Italian Alps near the Swiss border. At an elevation of 2,757 meters (9,045 feet) above sea level, it is one of the highest paved mountain passes in Europe and a popular destination for drivers, motorcyclists, and cyclists.
The pass features 48 hairpin turns and stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. It is part of the Stelvio National Park, which covers an area of 1,300 square kilometers (500 square miles) and is home to a variety of wildlife, including ibex, chamois, and marmots.
The road to the pass is usually open from May to October, although snowfall and other weather conditions can cause closures or restrictions. The pass has been featured in several popular movies and television shows, including the James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" and the BBC program "Top Gear." It is also a popular stop on the route of the Giro d'Italia, a prestigious cycling race held annually in Italy.
