Regensburg Cathedral, officially known as St. Peter's Cathedral, is the most important Gothic church in Bavaria and the defining landmark of the historic city of Regensburg. Its soaring twin spires dominate the skyline above the Danube River and make it one of Germany's finest examples of French-inspired Gothic architecture.

The cathedral's elegant stonework, magnificent stained-glass windows, and impressive interior have made it a centerpiece of Regensburg for centuries. Together with the city's medieval center, it forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town of Regensburg.

Construction of the present cathedral began in 1275 after a fire damaged an earlier Romanesque church on the site. Building work continued for several centuries, with the main structure largely completed in the 15th century. The iconic twin spires, however, were only finished in 1869, finally completing the cathedral according to its medieval plans.

Throughout its history, the cathedral has served as the religious heart of Regensburg and remains the seat of the Catholic Diocese of Regensburg.
