Pont Valentre is a medieval bridge located in the city of Cahors, in the southwestern French region of Occitanie. It was built in the 14th century, with construction starting in 1308 and finishing in 1378, and it spans the Lot River.
The bridge was built as a defensive structure and was designed to protect the city of Cahors from invaders. It has three impressive fortified towers, each with its own unique shape and design. The towers are connected by two smaller arches and a larger central arch, which has a span of 40 meters and a height of 22 meters.
The construction of Pont Valentre was a significant undertaking, with much of the work being done by prisoners and forced laborers. The bridge was considered a marvel of engineering at the time of its construction, and its architectural and aesthetic value has been recognized in modern times.
