Piazza del Campidoglio is a historically significant square located on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, Italy. The square was designed by the renowned Italian artist and architect Michelangelo Buonarroti in the 16th century, on the orders of Pope Paul III.
The Piazza is renowned for its stunning architecture, with the three buildings that surround it being Palazzo dei Conservatori, Palazzo Senatorio, and Palazzo Nuovo. The two equestrian statues at the center of the square, which depict the Dioscuri, were added in the 17th century.
One of the main features of the square is the central fountain, designed by Giacomo della Porta in the 16th century and later embellished with the addition of the bronze statue of the Roman god Neptune by Antonio della Bitta in the 19th century.
Piazza del Campidoglio also offers stunning views of the city, particularly of the Roman Forum, which can be accessed via a staircase located next to the Palazzo Senatorio. The square is a popular tourist destination, and is also used for various events and cultural activities throughout the year.
