The Palace of Fontainebleau is a large French royal château located in the town of Fontainebleau, approximately 60 kilometers southeast of Paris. The palace was a residence of the French monarchs from the 16th century to the 19th century.

The first traces of a castle at Fontainebleau date back to the 12th century, but the current palace was built in the 16th century, during the reigns of François I and Henri II. Over the years, the palace was expanded and renovated by subsequent monarchs, including Louis XIII, Louis XIV, and Napoleon.

The palace is known for its luxurious interiors and impressive art collection, which includes works by Italian and French Renaissance painters such as Titian, Raphael, and Primaticcio. The palace also features numerous ornate rooms and apartments, including the Grand Salon, the Throne Room, and the famous Galerie des Cerfs (Gallery of Stags).

In addition to the main palace buildings, the Fontainebleau complex includes extensive gardens and a large forest, which was used as a hunting ground by the French monarchs. The gardens feature formal parterres, fountains, and sculptures, as well as a picturesque canal.
