Multnomah Falls is a popular waterfall located in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, USA. It is situated on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, just east of Troutdale and approximately 30 minutes' drive east of downtown Portland.
The waterfall has a total height of 620 feet, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in the United States. It is fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain, and the water flows year-round. The waterfall is composed of two tiers, the upper fall dropping 542 feet and the lower fall dropping 69 feet.
There is a footbridge that spans the lower tier of the waterfall, allowing visitors to walk across and get a closer look at the falls. The footbridge was originally built in 1914 and has since been renovated to accommodate the thousands of visitors who come to see the falls each year.
In addition to the waterfall, the area surrounding Multnomah Falls is home to hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and picnic areas. Visitors can hike to the top of the falls on a paved trail that leads to an observation deck. The area is also popular for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.
Multnomah Falls is considered one of the most iconic natural attractions in Oregon and is visited by millions of people each year. It is also a sacred site for the indigenous Multnomah tribe, who consider the falls to be a place of great spiritual significance.
