Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a large sculpture carved into the face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. The sculpture features the faces of four former U.S. Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.
Construction of the memorial began in 1927 and was completed in 1941. The faces were carved by Danish-American sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his team of assistants using dynamite, drills, and chisels. The sculptures are 60 feet tall and the entire memorial covers over 1,278 acres.
Mount Rushmore is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, attracting over 2 million visitors annually.
