Banc d'Arguin National Park is a protected area located in Mauritania, along the Atlantic coast, between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou. The park was established in 1976 and covers an area of about 12,000 square kilometers.

The park is characterized by its diverse and unique ecosystems that include sandy beaches, dunes, shallow coastal waters, and rocky islands. These ecosystems support a wide variety of flora and fauna, including migratory birds, marine mammals, and several species of fish and crustaceans.

One of the most notable features of the park is its birdlife, with more than 2 million birds migrating through the area each year. The park is a major breeding ground for several species of wading birds, including the greater and lesser flamingos, pelicans, herons, and egrets. The park is also home to a variety of other bird species, such as ospreys, terns, gulls, and sandpipers.

Banc d'Arguin National Park is also home to several species of marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales, and seals. The park is a key breeding and feeding ground for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal.

In addition to its ecological importance, Banc d'Arguin National Park also has significant cultural and historical value. The park contains several archaeological sites, including prehistoric rock art and the remains of ancient settlements.

The park is managed by the Mauritanian government, with assistance from several international organizations, including UNESCO, which designated the park a World Heritage Site in 1989. The park is open to visitors, but strict regulations are in place to protect the park's fragile ecosystems and wildlife.
