The Skellig Islands are a pair of rocky, remote islands located off the coast of County Kerry, Ireland. They are best known for the historic Skellig Michael, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a former monastic settlement. The islands are located approximately 11.6 miles (18.7 km) off the coast and are considered some of the most isolated and inhospitable places in Ireland.

Skellig Michael is the larger of the two islands and is home to a series of well-preserved monastic structures, including beehive-shaped huts, hermit cells, and a monastic church. These structures date back to the early Christian period, around the 7th or 8th century, and are considered a testament to the early Irish monastic tradition.

The smaller of the two islands, Little Skellig, is a bird sanctuary and home to thousands of seabirds, including puffins, gannets, and guillemots. The islands have been protected as a wildlife reserve since 1996 and are managed by the Irish government’s National Parks and Wildlife Service.
