Saltstraumen is a narrow channel located in northern Norway, approximately 33 kilometers east of Bodø. It is known for having one of the strongest tidal currents in the world, with water speeds reaching up to 20 knots during peak periods. The strong currents are caused by the tides, which are influenced by the moon's phases and the shape of the surrounding land.

The Saltstraumen channel is approximately 3 kilometers long and 150 meters wide, and it connects the Saltfjorden with the Skjerstadfjorden. The area around Saltstraumen is popular among tourists and anglers due to the rich marine life and strong currents, which attract large numbers of fish, including cod, salmon, and halibut.

Visitors can observe the powerful currents from several vantage points, including the Saltstraumen bridge, which spans the channel and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Boat tours are also available, allowing visitors to experience the currents up close and explore the nearby islands and fjords.
