Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi district of Nepal, located about 290 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu. It is considered the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

The site was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and attracts visitors from all over the world. It is a place of great spiritual significance, and many temples, monasteries, and stupas have been built here over the centuries.

The most important monument in Lumbini is the Maya Devi Temple, which is dedicated to the mother of the Buddha. It is believed that she gave birth to the Buddha while standing under a tree in this spot. The temple contains a stone marker that is said to indicate the exact spot where the Buddha was born.

Other important monuments in Lumbini include the Ashoka Pillar, which was erected by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, and the Sacred Garden, which contains many important Buddhist structures and relics.
