Dettifoss is a waterfall located in Vatnajökull National Park in northeast Iceland, and is regarded as one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. It is situated on the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which originates from the Vatnajökull glacier, and flows into the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon.
The waterfall is approximately 100 meters wide and plunges down a height of 44 meters into a narrow gorge, creating a massive spray of mist and sound that can be seen and heard from a distance. The water of the falls is a milky white color due to the sediment carried from the glacial meltwater.
Dettifoss is accessible by car on a gravel road that leads to the parking lot, from which it's a short walk to the viewing platforms overlooking the falls. The waterfall is popular among tourists and hikers, and there are several hiking trails in the area that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The waterfall has been used as a filming location for several movies, including Prometheus and Game of Thrones.
