The Batu caves are a series of caves and temples located in Selangor, Malaysia. The caves are one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India, and are dedicated to Lord Murugan. The main attraction of the Batu Caves is the Temple Cave, which features a 100-meter high ceiling and is home to numerous Hindu shrines and statues. The caves are located just 13 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur and can be easily reached by train.

Visitors to the Batu Caves are often struck by the towering, steep steps leading up to the main temple, which are known as the "Staircase to Heaven." In addition to the Temple Cave, the Batu Caves also contain several smaller caves, including the Dark Cave, which is home to rare species of bats, and the Ramayana Cave, which features intricate carvings and paintings depicting scenes from the Hindu epic, the Ramayana.

The Batu Caves are also famous for their annual Thaipusam festival, which attracts hundreds of thousands of Hindu devotees from all over the world. During the festival, devotees carry kavadis, large decorative structures that are attached to their bodies, as a form of religious penance and devotion.

The Batu Caves are an important religious site for the Hindu community and a popular tourist attraction, attracting over 1 million visitors each year.
