Zvartnots Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Angels, is a 7th-century historical site located in the Armavir Province of Armenia. The cathedral was built by Catholicos Nerses III in 641 AD, during the height of the Armenian Bagratuni dynasty, and served as the main religious center of the country until its destruction in the 10th century.
Zvartnots is renowned for its unique architectural design, which combines elements of both the Byzantine and Sassanian styles. The cathedral is circular in shape, with three tiers of arches and a central dome. The exterior of the cathedral is decorated with intricate stone carvings and sculptural reliefs depicting religious scenes and figures.
The cathedral was destroyed in the 10th century following a series of earthquakes, and its ruins were only rediscovered in the early 20th century. Despite its ruined state, Zvartnots Cathedral is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered one of the most important historical and cultural sites in Armenia. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the cathedral and learn about its rich history and significance to Armenian culture and architecture.
