Wahiba Sands, also known as Sharqiya Sands, is a desert region located in the eastern part of Oman, covering an area of around 12,500 square kilometers. The desert is named after the Wahiba tribe, who have traditionally lived in the region.
Wahiba Sands is known for its towering sand dunes, which can reach up to 150 meters in height, as well as its beautiful and varied landscape, including vast stretches of sand, rocky mountains, and wadis (dry riverbeds). The area is also home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including desert plants, camels, and a number of bird species.
Tourists visiting Wahiba Sands can enjoy a range of activities, such as dune bashing (driving off-road vehicles over the sand dunes), camel rides, sandboarding, and desert camping. Bedouin communities still live in the desert, and visitors can experience their traditional lifestyle and hospitality by staying in a Bedouin-style tent or enjoying a meal in one of their camps.
