The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is a museum of decorative arts and design located in London, United Kingdom. Established in 1852, it is named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and its collections cover 5,000 years of art and design from around the world.
The museum is home to over 2.3 million objects, including ceramics, glass, textiles, metalwork, furniture, sculpture, paintings, prints, drawings, and photographs. The collections span from ancient times to the present day and include works from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
Highlights of the V&A's collection include the medieval and Renaissance galleries, the British galleries, the jewelry collection, the Islamic Middle East galleries, the Asian collections, and the fashion collection, which includes over 14,000 items of clothing and accessories.
In addition to its permanent collections, the museum hosts a wide range of temporary exhibitions, as well as educational programs, lectures, and events. It also houses several cafes and restaurants, as well as a gift shop selling books, souvenirs, and designer products inspired by the museum's collections.
The V&A is located in the South Kensington district of London, and admission to the permanent collections is free, with a charge for some temporary exhibitions.
