The Vernadsky Research Base is a Ukrainian research station located on Galindez Island in the Argentine Islands of Antarctica. It was originally established by the British in 1947 as Base F, and was later transferred to Ukraine in 1996 as part of the British Antarctic Survey's rationalisation program.

The base is named after the Russian scientist Vladimir Vernadsky, who is considered one of the founders of modern geochemistry and biogeochemistry. It is one of the most isolated research stations in the world, and is only accessible by ship or helicopter.

The base is primarily focused on scientific research related to meteorology, atmospheric science, and geology. It also conducts research on the ecosystem of the Antarctic region, including marine biology and ecology.

One of the notable features of the Vernadsky Research Base is its bar, which is known as the "southernmost bar in the world". The bar was originally established by the British in 1947 and is now operated by the Ukrainian scientists at the base. The bar serves as a gathering place for the researchers and staff, and is known for its homemade vodka, which is distilled on site using local glacial water.

In addition to its scientific research, the Vernadsky Research Base also plays an important role in monitoring the environment and weather patterns in the Antarctic region. It is part of a global network of scientific stations that work together to study and protect the fragile ecosystem of the region
