Tihany Abbey, also known as the Benedictine Abbey of Tihany, is a medieval abbey located on the Tihany Peninsula in Hungary. It was founded in the year 1055 by King Andrew I of Hungary, and was the first Benedictine monastery established in the country.

The abbey is known for its stunning Baroque-style church, which was completed in the 18th century. The church has a unique red and white striped exterior and is home to many impressive works of art, including a 12th-century wooden statue of the Virgin Mary and a 14th-century Gothic altar.

The abbey also features a museum that showcases the history of the monastery and the Tihany Peninsula. Visitors can see a collection of archaeological artifacts, religious relics, and paintings, as well as learn about the daily life of the monks who lived at the abbey over the centuries.

The Tihany Peninsula is a popular tourist destination in Hungary, and the abbey is one of its most notable landmarks. Visitors to the abbey can enjoy stunning views of Lake Balaton, Hungary's largest lake, and explore the picturesque village of Tihany, which is home to many charming shops, cafes, and restaurants.
