Tian Tan Buddha, also known as the Big Buddha, is a large bronze statue located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The statue stands at 34 meters (112 feet) tall and weighs 250 metric tons (280 short tons). It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hong Kong and a significant symbol of Buddhism in the region.
The statue was completed in 1993 and is located near the Po Lin Monastery, which was built in 1906 and is considered one of the most significant Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong. Visitors to Tian Tan Buddha can climb 268 steps to reach the statue's base, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and seascape.
The statue is considered a significant example of traditional Chinese art and architecture. It was built using bronze and features traditional Chinese motifs and iconography, including lotus flowers, ribbons, and a variety of other decorative elements.
In addition to the statue itself, the area around Tian Tan Buddha is home to several other attractions, including the Ngong Ping 360 cable car, which offers visitors panoramic views of the surrounding area as they travel to the site, and the Wisdom Path, a path lined with wooden columns inscribed with Buddhist scriptures.
