The Three Sisters is a popular rock formation located in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The three towering rock pillars are made of sandstone and are approximately 900 meters above sea level. The formation is an iconic landmark and is considered to be one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Blue Mountains.
According to the Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, the Three Sisters were three sisters named Meehni, Wimlah, and Gunnedoo who were turned to stone by a powerful witch doctor to protect them from harm. However, the witch doctor was killed in a battle and no one was left to reverse the spell, thus turning the three sisters into rocks.
Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Three Sisters from various lookout points such as Echo Point, Katoomba Scenic Railway, and Scenic World Skyway. The formation is particularly stunning at sunrise and sunset when the colors of the sandstone rock change to gold and crimson. Additionally, visitors can also take guided tours to explore the walking trails around the Three Sisters and learn more about the Aboriginal culture and history.
