Su Nuraxi is a nuragic complex located in the Sardinian town of Barumini, in the province of South Sardinia, Italy. It is a well-preserved example of a nuraghe, which is a type of ancient megalithic structure found only in Sardinia. The site was discovered in the early 20th century and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
The main structure of Su Nuraxi is a central tower surrounded by a complex of smaller towers, walls, and courtyards. The tower is built of large stone blocks without any mortar, using the corbelling technique to create a dome-shaped structure. It is believed to have been built in the 16th century BC and was used for defensive purposes as well as for religious and ceremonial activities.
The site was continuously occupied and expanded over the centuries, with new towers and structures added to the complex. In addition to the main tower, there are several smaller towers, a courtyard, a sacrificial altar, and a well.
The site has been extensively excavated and restored, and visitors can explore the various structures and rooms of the complex, including a small museum displaying artifacts found during the excavations. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Sardinia and is a popular destination for tourists interested in ancient history and culture.
