Sidoarjo volcano, also known as the Lusi Mud Volcano, is located in East Java, Indonesia. The eruption of Sidoarjo volcano began on May 29, 2006, following the drilling of a gas exploration well by PT Lapindo Brantas, which caused a massive mudflow. The mudflow destroyed homes and farmland, displaced thousands of people, and continues to flow to this day.

The eruption of Sidoarjo volcano has been one of the largest mud volcano eruptions in history, with an estimated 180,000 cubic meters of mud being erupted each day. The mudflow has covered an area of over 7 square kilometers and has caused an estimated $2.7 billion in damages.

Efforts to control the mudflow have been ongoing, with a number of different methods being tried. These include the construction of levees and dams to try and contain the mud, and the drilling of relief wells to try and reduce the pressure of the mudflow. Despite these efforts, the mudflow continues to flow and has had a significant impact on the surrounding area.
