Senso-ji Temple, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple, is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. It is one of the oldest and most significant temples in Tokyo, with a history that dates back to the 7th century.

According to legend, in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of the Buddhist goddess Kannon from the Sumida River, and the temple was built on the spot where the statue was enshrined. Over the centuries, Senso-ji has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, most recently during World War II.

The temple complex includes several buildings, the most notable of which is the main hall, or hondo, which houses the Kannon statue that is said to have been discovered in the river. Visitors to the temple can also see the five-story pagoda, which stands over 50 meters tall and is the second-tallest pagoda in Japan.

The approach to Senso-ji is through the famous Kaminarimon, or "Thunder Gate," which is adorned with a large lantern and two statues of the gods of wind and thunder. Beyond the gate is Nakamise-dori, a shopping street lined with traditional Japanese stores selling souvenirs and snacks.

Senso-ji Temple is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, and it is especially busy during festivals such as the Sanja Matsuri in May and the Asakusa Samba Carnival in August.
