The Roman theatre of Philippopolis, also known as the Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv, is an ancient Roman theatre located in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It was built during the 2nd century AD and is considered to be one of the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world. The theatre was used for various performances, including dramas, comedies, and gladiator fights.

The theatre had a seating capacity of approximately 6,000-7,000 people and was constructed in a horseshoe shape with 28 rows of seats. The stage was covered with marble and decorated with statues of gods and heroes. Behind the stage, there were dressing rooms and other facilities used by actors and performers.

The theatre was abandoned in the 4th century AD when the Roman Empire began to decline. Over time, the theatre was covered with soil and was used as a fortress and a quarry. In the 20th century, the theatre was excavated and restored to its former glory.

Today, the Roman theatre of Philippopolis is a popular tourist attraction and is used for various cultural events, including concerts, plays, and festivals. Visitors can take guided tours of the theatre and learn about its history and significance in ancient Roman culture.
