Palacio Salvo is a historic building located in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. It was designed by Italian architect Mario Palanti and completed in 1928. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest building in South America and one of the tallest in the world, standing at 100 meters (328 feet) tall with 27 floors.
The building is located on the Plaza Independencia, which is one of the main squares in Montevideo. It is named after the Salvo brothers, who commissioned the building for use as a hotel and commercial center. However, it was converted to office space before it was completed.
Palacio Salvo features a mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Romanesque, and Art Deco. It is made of reinforced concrete and features ornate details such as gargoyles, sculpted figures, and intricate reliefs. The building has a distinctive tower, which is topped by a lighthouse-like structure that was originally used for air traffic control.
