Museu Carlos Machado is a museum located in Ponta Delgada, the largest city on the Azorean island of São Miguel, Portugal. It is dedicated to the history, art and culture of the Azores archipelago and has a collection of over 14,000 objects, ranging from natural history specimens to contemporary art.
The museum is housed in three different buildings in the historic center of Ponta Delgada, each with its own collection. The first building, the Convent of Santo André, has a collection of religious art and artifacts, including vestments, reliquaries, and paintings. The second building, the Palace of Santa Catarina, displays decorative arts, furniture, and textiles from the 17th to 19th centuries. The third building, the Núcleo de Arte Sacra, houses an extensive collection of religious art from the 16th to the 18th centuries, including paintings, sculptures, and silverware.
In addition to its permanent collections, the museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs for all ages. The museum aims to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Azores and to educate visitors about the region's unique history and traditions.
