Manila Cathedral, also known as the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines. It is considered as one of the most important churches in the country, as it has served as the venue for several significant events in Philippine history.
The cathedral was first built in 1581, but it has undergone several renovations and reconstructions throughout the centuries due to fires, earthquakes, and war damages. The current structure was completed in 1958 and features a neo-Romanesque architecture with Gothic and Baroque elements.
The interior of the cathedral boasts of intricate designs and artworks, such as stained glass windows depicting the life of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary, and a magnificent altar made of Italian Carrara marble. The cathedral also houses the remains of several notable figures in Philippine history, including former archbishops, cardinals, and national heroes.
