The Dune of Pilat, also known as the Great Dune of Pilat, is a large sand dune located on the Atlantic coast of France, near the town of Arcachon in the Gironde department. It is the tallest sand dune in Europe, standing at over 100 meters tall, and stretches for over 2.7 kilometers along the coast.

The Dune of Pilat was formed by a combination of wind and tidal movements, which have been shaping the dune for thousands of years. The dune is constantly shifting, with the wind moving sand grains up the slope on one side and down the slope on the other, creating a distinctive wave pattern on the dune's surface.

The Dune of Pilat is a popular tourist attraction, with visitors climbing to the top of the dune to take in the panoramic views of the Atlantic coast and the surrounding forests. The area around the dune is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, including pine forests and heathland, and is an important nesting ground for migratory birds.

In addition to its natural beauty, the Dune of Pilat has also become a popular destination for outdoor activities such as paragliding, sandboarding, and kite surfing. Visitors can also explore the nearby town of Arcachon, which is known for its seafood and oyster farming, as well as its beaches and water sports activities.
