The Doria Pamphilj Gallery, also known as the Doria Pamphilj Palace, is a museum and private art collection located in Rome, Italy. The palace was originally built in the 15th century by the wealthy Pamphilj family, and it has been expanded and renovated numerous times over the centuries. The Doria Pamphilj family still resides in a private wing of the palace.
The gallery contains one of the largest private art collections in Rome, with over 650 paintings and 2,000 sculptures on display. The collection includes works by many famous Italian and European artists, such as Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, Velázquez, Bernini, and many others.
Some of the highlights of the collection include Caravaggio's famous painting "Rest on the Flight into Egypt," which is considered one of his masterpieces, and Velázquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest portraits ever painted.
The palace itself is also a work of art, with beautifully decorated rooms featuring frescoes, tapestries, and antique furniture. Visitors can tour the palace and gallery, and audio guides are available in several languages.
The Doria Pamphilj Gallery is located in the historic center of Rome, near the Piazza Venezia and the Pantheon. It is open to visitors daily, except for major holidays, and admission fees apply.
