Castelpetroso is a small hilltop town located in the province of Isernia, in the region of Molise, Italy. The town is known for its castle, the Castello Pandone, which dates back to the 12th century and has been well-preserved. The castle was built by the Normans and was later used by the Swabians as a strategic outpost to defend their territory.

Another point of interest in Castelpetroso is the Sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata. This is a church that was built in the early 1900s and is known for its beautiful stained-glass windows and frescoes. The church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and attracts many pilgrims throughout the year, especially during the month of September when a religious festival is held in her honor.

In addition to these historical and religious sites, Castelpetroso is also a great place to enjoy the natural beauty of Molise. The town is surrounded by hills and forests, making it a great destination for hiking and exploring the countryside. Visitors can also enjoy local cuisine, which includes specialties such as pasta alla molisana, caciocavallo cheese, and agnello alla molisana (Molise-style lamb).
