Buddha Dordenma is a massive statue of Buddha located in the mountains overlooking Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold, and stands at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.
Construction of the statue began in 2006 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fourth king of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue was completed in 2015, and is said to contain 125,000 smaller Buddha statues inside it.
Visitors can climb up to the base of the statue, which is also home to a monastery and several prayer wheels. From the base, there are stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
