The Ancient Theatre of Taormina is a well-preserved ancient Greek theater located in Taormina, Sicily. The theater was built in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks and was later renovated and expanded by the Romans. The theater is built into the side of a mountain and offers stunning views of Mount Etna and the Mediterranean Sea.
The theater is known for its excellent acoustics and was used for both theatrical performances and gladiatorial games. It was later used as a quarry by the Arabs, who removed many of the original stones to build other structures. In the 19th century, the theater was restored by the Italian government and is now used for concerts, operas, and other performances.
The theater has a diameter of 120 meters and can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators. It is divided into nine sections, each with a different seating area. The orchestra pit, which was originally used for musicians, is now used for seating VIP guests. The stage has a depth of 19 meters and is framed by two large marble columns.
