Witte Huis (White House) is a historic skyscraper located in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Completed in 1898, it was one of the first high-rise buildings in Europe and the first skyscraper in the Netherlands. The building was designed by Willem Molenbroek and modeled after the high-rise buildings in Chicago.
The Witte Huis is a 43-meter tall building with 10 floors and a steel frame structure, which was a novel construction technique at the time. The facade of the building is white-glazed brick with a mix of Art Nouveau and Art Deco details, giving it a unique style.
During World War II, the Witte Huis survived the bombing of Rotterdam by the Germans in May 1940, making it one of the few historic buildings in the city center that remained standing. After the war, the building was restored and refurbished.
Today, the Witte Huis serves as a mixed-use building with offices on the upper floors and retail and restaurants on the ground floor. It has become an iconic landmark of Rotterdam and is a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world to admire its architectural style and historical significance.
