Waitomo Glowworm Caves is a network of underground limestone caves located in Waitomo, New Zealand. The caves are famous for their bioluminescent glowworms, which create a beautiful and unique natural light display.

The caves were formed over millions of years from the slow and steady flow of water through the soft limestone. As the water flowed, it dissolved the rock and created intricate underground passages and chambers. Today, visitors can explore these formations and admire the beautiful stalactites, stalagmites, and other unique rock formations.

The highlight of the caves, however, are the glowworms. These tiny creatures are actually the larvae of a species of fungus gnat found only in New Zealand. They produce a blue-green bioluminescent light that illuminates the cave walls and ceilings, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere.

Visitors can take guided tours of the caves, which range from easy walking tours to more adventurous activities like abseiling and black water rafting. The caves are open year-round and are a popular tourist destination, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
