Veliko Tarnovo is a city located in north-central Bulgaria, situated on the banks of the Yantra River. It was once the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire and is now a popular tourist destination known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful scenery.

The city has a long and storied past, dating back to the 3rd millennium BC. It was the site of a Thracian settlement, followed by a Roman fortress, and later became the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire from the 12th to the 14th century. Veliko Tarnovo played a significant role in Bulgarian history, with many important events and battles taking place there.

One of the main attractions in Veliko Tarnovo is the Tsarevets Fortress, a medieval stronghold that served as the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. It is situated on a hill overlooking the city and features impressive fortifications, a palace, and a number of churches and monasteries. Another notable landmark is the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of God, which was built in the 12th century and served as the seat of the Bulgarian Patriarch until the Ottoman conquest in the 14th century.

The city is also known for its traditional architecture, with many of its houses and buildings featuring steep roofs and wooden balconies. Visitors can explore the historic Samovodska Charshiya, a preserved street lined with traditional shops and workshops, or take a stroll along the Yantra River and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
