Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-hewn town located in eastern Georgia, approximately 10 kilometers east of the town of Gori. The name Uplistsikhe means "the fortress of the lord" in the Georgian language, and the site is believed to have been continuously inhabited from the 6th century BC until the 13th century AD.

The site features a complex of rock-hewn structures, including houses, tunnels, amphitheaters, a temple, and a palace, all carved into the rocky hills. The town was strategically located on the trade route between Asia and Europe, and it played an important role in the cultural and political life of ancient Georgia.

The most impressive structures at Uplistsikhe include the large rock-cut hall of reception, the rock-cut theater, and the temple of the sun, which features a large central dome supported by four pillars. The town also features an underground tunnel system, which allowed residents to move between buildings and provided a safe escape route during times of war.

Today, Uplistsikhe is an important archaeological site and a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world. The site has been designated as a national monument of Georgia and is protected by the government.
