San Millán de la Cogolla is a small town located in the region of La Rioja in northern Spain. The town is famous for its two ancient monasteries, Yuso and Suso, which are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Monastery of Yuso was founded in the 11th century and is known for its stunning Baroque architecture and its library, which contains many important historical manuscripts. The monastery was also the birthplace of the first written words in the Spanish language, as the monks who lived there in the 10th century transcribed documents in a local dialect known as "Glosas Emilianenses."

The Monastery of Suso is located on a hill overlooking the town and was founded in the 6th century. The monastery is known for its Mozarabic-style frescoes, which depict scenes from the life of Christ and the saints. It is also said to be the burial place of the founder of the Spanish language, Gonzalo de Berceo.

In addition to the monasteries, San Millán de la Cogolla is also known for its beautiful natural surroundings, with lush forests and rolling hills. Visitors can enjoy hiking, cycling, and other outdoor activities, as well as sampling the local wine and cuisine, which is renowned for its rich flavors and high quality.
