The Romanian Athenaeum is a concert hall and a landmark of Bucharest, Romania. The building, which was completed in 1888, was designed by the French architect Albert Galleron and has been one of the city's main venues for classical music concerts ever since.
The exterior of the Athenaeum is an impressive example of neoclassical architecture, with a grand columned portico and a large cupola. Inside, the main concert hall is a stunning display of Belle Époque design, featuring ornate stucco and frescoes, a large crystal chandelier, and seating for up to 600 guests.
The Romanian Athenaeum has been the home of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra since 1920 and has hosted many notable performers over the years, including Yehudi Menuhin, Arthur Rubinstein, and Herbert von Karajan. It is also the venue for the biennial George Enescu International Festival, one of the largest classical music events in Eastern Europe.
In addition to its musical events, the Athenaeum is also used for other cultural events, conferences, and exhibitions. Its central location in the heart of Bucharest makes it easily accessible by public transport or on foot.
