Qal'at al-Bahrain is an archaeological site located in the heart of Bahrain Island. It is an important testimony to the history of the region and is believed to have been the capital of the ancient Dilmun civilization. The site includes a fortress that has been inhabited for over 4,000 years, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the Arabian Gulf.

The site covers an area of around 16 hectares and contains the remains of several different periods of occupation, including Dilmun, Tylos, Islamic and Portuguese periods. The fortress is the most prominent feature of the site and is surrounded by a system of walls and towers that were built over several centuries.

The Qal'at al-Bahrain site also includes a large number of archaeological features, such as a large cemetery and a residential area, which offer insights into the daily life and customs of the people who lived in the area over the centuries. Many artifacts have been discovered at the site, including pottery, jewelry, and tools, which provide evidence of the complex trading relationships that existed between Bahrain and the wider region.

In recognition of its cultural and historical importance, Qal'at al-Bahrain was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and a key part of Bahrain's cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the site and learn more about the history of the region through guided tours and exhibits at the nearby Bahrain National Museum.
