Polonnaruwa is an ancient city located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was the second capital of Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura and served as the capital of the country from the 11th to the 13th centuries CE. The city is home to numerous ancient ruins and historical landmarks that reflect the cultural and architectural heritage of Sri Lanka.

Some of the key attractions of Polonnaruwa include the Royal Palace complex, the Council Chamber, the Sacred Quadrangle, the Lankatilaka Temple, the Gal Vihara, and the Lotus Pond. The Royal Palace complex features several buildings that were once part of the royal palace, including the Audience Hall, the King's Quarters, and the Queen's Quarters. The Council Chamber is a circular structure that was used for meetings of the king's council, while the Sacred Quadrangle houses several religious buildings, including the Thuparama, Vatadage, and Hatadage.

The Lankatilaka Temple is a Buddhist temple that was built in the 12th century and features a towering brick and stucco image house. The Gal Vihara is a rock temple that houses several giant Buddha statues, including a standing Buddha that is over 23 feet tall. The Lotus Pond is a man-made water tank that was created by King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century and is surrounded by a number of small shrines and temples.
