Plaza de Cibeles is one of the most famous and beautiful plazas (squares) in Madrid, Spain. It is located in the city center, at the junction of Calle de Alcala and Paseo del Prado. The plaza is named after the fountain of the Greek goddess Cybele, located in the center of the plaza.

The fountain of Cybele, also known as the Fuente de la diosa Cibeles in Spanish, is a striking white marble sculpture of a goddess sitting in a chariot pulled by two lions. The fountain was designed by the Spanish architect Ventura Rodríguez in the late 18th century and completed in 1782.

The plaza is surrounded by several notable buildings, including the Palacio de Cibeles (Cibeles Palace), which used to be the city's main post office but now houses cultural events and exhibitions. The Palacio de Linares, which is an early 20th-century mansion and now the Casa de America cultural center, and the Banco de España, a grand neoclassical building.

Plaza de Cibeles is also an important traffic hub in Madrid, with several major streets converging at the plaza. The plaza is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike and is often used as a gathering place for public events and celebrations, such as when Real Madrid football club wins a major trophy or for the annual New Year's Eve celebrations.
