Noravank is a 13th-century Armenian monastery located in the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia. The monastery was built by the Orbelian family, a prominent Armenian noble dynasty, as a spiritual center and a mausoleum for their dynasty.
The complex consists of several buildings, including the main church of Surb Astvatsatsin, the two-storey Surb Karapet church, a scriptorium, a refectory, and other smaller buildings. The main church is known for its unique architectural style, featuring a single dome and a complex system of arcades and pillars.
The exterior of the main church is decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures, including images of saints, angels, and mythical creatures. Inside, the church is decorated with frescoes, some of which are considered to be the finest examples of medieval Armenian art.
Noravank is also known for its location, nestled in a narrow canyon surrounded by red cliffs and stunning natural scenery. The surrounding area is also home to many other important historical and cultural sites, including the Areni-1 cave complex and the ancient city of Yeghegnadzor.
