The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is the unicameral legislative body of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade and consists of 250 members who are elected every four years through a mixed electoral system that combines proportional and majority voting.
The National Assembly is responsible for enacting laws, approving the national budget, overseeing the work of the government, and making decisions on matters of national importance. It also has the power to impeach the President of the Republic and members of the government, and to initiate changes to the Constitution.
The building that houses the National Assembly is located in the city center of Belgrade and was originally constructed in the early 20th century. The building was heavily damaged during World War II and was later reconstructed and expanded in the 1950s and 1960s.
The National Assembly holds regular sessions throughout the year, as well as extraordinary sessions when necessary. The sessions are open to the public and broadcast on national television. The Speaker of the National Assembly is the highest-ranking official in the legislature and presides over its sessions. The current Speaker is Ivica Dacic, who has held the position since 2020.
