Khongoryn Els, also known as the Singing Sands, is a large sand dune area in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. The dunes stretch over 100 kilometers and can reach heights of up to 300 meters. The sand dunes are known for the sound they make when the sand is shifted by wind, which gives them the name "singing sands."
Khongoryn Els is a popular tourist destination in Mongolia, with visitors coming to explore the dunes and enjoy the unique landscape. Camel rides and hikes up the dunes are popular activities in the area, and there are also opportunities for sandboarding and quad biking.
The area surrounding Khongoryn Els is home to a number of nomadic families who herd livestock in the desert, including camels, horses, and goats. Visitors can stay with these families in traditional gers, or yurts, and learn about their way of life and culture.
Khongoryn Els is also home to a number of unique and rare species, including the Gobi bear, snow leopard, and ibex. The area is protected as part of the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, which was established in 1993 to protect the unique landscape and wildlife of the region.
