Kamyana Mohyla (Кам'яна Могила) is an archaeological site and monument located in the city of Melitopol, in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast of Ukraine. It is considered one of the most important and unique archaeological sites in Ukraine, dating back to the third millennium BCE. The name Kamyana Mohyla means "stone tomb" in Ukrainian, and the site consists of several mounds made of stones and earth.
The site was discovered in 1826, and archaeological excavations have been conducted there since the 1920s. It is believed that Kamyana Mohyla was an ancient burial site for the people who lived in the area during the Bronze Age. The mounds are thought to have been used for the burials of important people in the community, and some of the graves contained valuable objects such as bronze axes and pottery.
One of the most interesting features of Kamyana Mohyla is the so-called "stone calendar". This is a large stone slab that was discovered in one of the mounds, and it has numerous markings that are believed to have been used for astronomical observations. It is thought that the people who built the stone calendar had a good knowledge of astronomy and used it to keep track of the seasons and important dates.
Today, Kamyana Mohyla is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can see the mounds, the stone calendar, and a small museum that displays some of the artifacts found at the site. The site has been designated a National Historical and Cultural Reserve, and it is considered an important part of Ukraine's cultural heritage.
