Gammelstad Church Town, also known as Gammelstads kyrkstad, is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the northern part of Sweden, about 10 kilometers from Luleå. It is a unique example of a well-preserved church town that developed in the 17th and 18th centuries in northern Scandinavia.

The church town consists of over 400 traditional wooden houses and cottages, which were built around the medieval stone church of Nederluleå. These houses served as accommodation for people who lived in remote areas and came to the church for religious services, markets, and other events.

The houses were built in a typical Scandinavian style, with red-painted wooden walls, sloping roofs, and white-framed windows. They are arranged in a grid-like pattern, with narrow streets and alleys that lead to the church.

The church, which dates back to the 15th century, is an impressive example of medieval architecture. It has a tall bell tower, a nave with three aisles, and a striking wooden altarpiece that was carved in the 18th century. It is still used for religious services, concerts, and other cultural events.

Visitors can explore the church town on foot, taking in the unique atmosphere of this historic site. There are also several museums and exhibitions that showcase the history and culture of the region, including the Gammelstad Museum and the Old Homestead Museum.
