The Eisbach Wave is an artificial standing wave on the Eisbach (Ice Brook) river in Munich, Germany. The river runs through the Englischer Garten (English Garden) park in the center of Munich and is a popular spot for surfers. The wave was created accidentally in the early 1970s when some local surfers placed stones in the river to create a small wave for surfing.
The wave gained popularity over the years and in 2010, the city of Munich officially recognized the Eisbach Wave as a surfing spot. Since then, the wave has become a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. The wave is challenging for surfers as it is only 1 meter high, but the current is strong, and the water is cold. Only experienced surfers are advised to try it.
The area around the Eisbach Wave has become a hangout spot for the local surfing community, and spectators often gather to watch the surfers ride the wave. The area is also popular for sunbathing, picnicking, and relaxing. There are several beer gardens nearby where visitors can grab a cold drink or a bite to eat after watching the surfers.
